What does a life as Plasterer look like?

Plastering is a core function within the construction sector especially in house building and refurbishments. As a plasterer you will have to learn about all the different products and understand how to manage a job which will be different depending on the materials you are using. You will be responsible for mixing and applying different kinds of plaster to inside walls and ceilings, working with dry lining, and putting protective coverings onto external walls such as pebble dashing to protect and waterproof buildings. Roles in plastering are physical in nature and may involve lifting and moving of equipment, working at height and will involve working inside and outside.

The apprenticeship course will cover the following: -

  • Identifying and confirming plastering requirements and components against a survey/job sheet/specification/drawings/CAD/BIM and in accordance with Building Regulations
  • Preparing the site/work area (including access equipment when necessary), power and hand tools appropriate to the project
  • Locate, handle, store, load, transport and position plastering materials and components safely, minimising damage so they are ready for application and where applicable, in accordance with Working at Height regulations
  • Preparing background substrates for internal solid plastering, dry lining and external rendering
  • Apply sealers and bonding agents to ensure plaster and render adhesion in line with the manufactures instructions
  • Identify and select appropriate plastering materials, modern pre-blended and loose plasters, renders and additives including compounds, fixings, performance plasterboards, reinforcements and beads to carry out the plastering work in line with specifications and manufactures instructions
  • Carrying out both internal and external plastering works

What do you need to be a successful applicant: -

  • GCSEs in English and maths grade 4 or above
  • The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks
  • Strong communication skills
  • Preferably you will live no more than a 5 mile radius from the W10 postcode
  • Be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships
  • Please note due to the nature of the role successful applicants are required to complete a basic Math & English test with potential of a practical test at interview stage

What you will get:

You will of course have access to our many benefits designed to save you money and benefit you as a colleague at Mears Group: -

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
