Multi-Skilled Operative
Location: Rainham (London)
Contract: Full Time Permanent – 42.5hrs per week, 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £38,703.26 per annum, plus company van and fuel card
We are looking for a skilled and versatile Multi-Skilled Operative to join our team in Rainham, supporting a busy social housing contract across London and Essex. This is a field-based role focused primarily on reactive repairs within occupied homes, where quality workmanship and excellent customer service are key.
This is a hands-on role offering variety and autonomy, where you will carry out multi-trade repairs in residents’ homes. You will be trusted to manage your own workload, identify additional repair needs, and deliver a right-first-time service while always representing Mears professionally.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for delivering reactive repairs and maintenance across occupied social housing properties within the wider London and Essex patch.
Carrying out day-to-day repairs in occupied social housing properties
Completing carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and painting and decorating tasks
Diagnosing faults and identifying further repair requirements
Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
Working professionally and respectfully in residents’ homes, always delivering excellent customer service
Managing your own workload
Accurately recording job details and completion notes using a PDA
Maintaining a company vehicle in good working order
Working independently while contributing positively to the wider team
Key Criteria:
Proven experience in social housing repairs and maintenance
NVQ Level 2 in at least one core trade
Experience across at least three of the trades listed above
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Willingness to travel across Greater London and Essex
Full UK driving licence with no more than 9 points
Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems
