Negotiator

Location: Basingstoke

Contract: Office based, Full time, 12 month fixed term contract Role

Salary up to £26,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting for a Negotiator to join our team in Basingstoke. This role is focused on securing commercially advantageous tenancy renewals with landlords and lettings agents, in line with industry standards such as ARLA, IRC and IPRHP. You’ll manage negotiations from start to finish, resolve disputes, and ensure expectations are met with professionalism and clarity.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining a clear audit trail of decisions, managing your workload efficiently, and ensuring all services meet contractual and performance targets. Collaboration is key - you’ll work closely with colleagues, partners, contractors and suppliers to deliver a seamless service. You’ll also contribute to team meetings, share ideas for improvement, and support wider teams when needed.

Role Criteria

  • Experience working in a customer service environment, with a focus on delivering high standards
  • Background in residential lettings or property management
  • Proven ability to negotiate commercial terms with landlords and agents
  • Skilled in managing disputes and resolving issues to a satisfactory outcome
  • Able to manage workload independently and meet deadlines for tenancy renewals
  • Experience working with diverse client groups and understanding differing cultural needs
  • Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI)
  • Comfortable maintaining accurate records and audit trails on company systems
  • Able to escalate cases appropriately and provide timely updates to stakeholders
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across teams and external partners
  • Willingness to contribute ideas and suggestions to improve service delivery
  • Proactive in personal development and learning about services, technology and community issues
  • Fully compliant with company policies, procedures and code of conduct
  • Flexible to support ad hoc projects and provide cover across teams when required

As part of the recruitment process for this role, we will carry out a Background, Identity, Security clearance & BPSS check. For these checks to be completed, we will require from you the relevant identification, including Proof of Address, References, a valid passport and proof that you have lived in the UK for the last 5 years.

All our roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK, Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship.

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21 have held your licence over 3 months and have less than 9 points.
