Contract Manager

Location: Peterborough

Salary: £48,000

Hours: 42.5 per week, Monday to Friday

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

This role plays a key part in supporting the wider team by ensuring day-to-day activities are completed accurately and on time. You’ll be responsible for managing your own workload, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, and contributing to the smooth running of processes within the function. The position offers the opportunity to develop your skills, gain exposure across the team, and make a meaningful contribution to operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the day-to-day operational and commercial delivery of repairs and maintenance contracts, including housing disrepair work
  • Ensure responsive and planned repairs services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual, legal, and budgetary requirements
  • Lead and manage direct labour workforce and supply chain partners, ensuring the right resources are in place to meet service demand
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, COSHH requirements, and Mears operating procedures across all repairs activity
  • Oversee the management of housing disrepair claims, ensuring compliance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims (England)
  • Drive service performance and customer satisfaction, ensuring contractual KPIs and service levels are consistently achieved
  • Provide strong operational leadership, coaching and developing supervisors and teams to improve productivity, quality, and engagement
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with local authority clients, residents, subcontractors, and community stakeholders
  • Monitor costs, performance, and risk, providing accurate reporting and insight to senior management
  • Support continuous improvement across repairs operations, identifying opportunities to improve service delivery and value for money

Key Criteria

  • Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH
  • Confident people manager with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and residents
  • Strong customer focus with a practical, solutions-led approach
  • Highly organised and decisive, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confident in negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management
  • IT literate, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience in social housing
  • Uk Full driving licence

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21 have held your licence over 3 months and have less than 9 points.
