We are the largest provider of repairs, maintenance, and regeneration services across the UK. Mears provides tailored rapid-response and planned maintenance services through partnering arrangements with more than 70 local authorities, Arm’s Length Management Organisations, and Housing Associations.

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Flush Floor Shower Installer to join our team. This role involves installing flush floor showers for tenants requiring reasonable adjustments, ensuring the bathrooms are both functional and accessible. The ideal candidate will have experience in plumbing, tiling, and general bathroom renovations, with a focus on creating safe and user-friendly environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and Demolition:
    • Remove existing bath, basin, tiles, wallpaper, and floor vinyl while keeping the toilet in place.
    • Ensure the work area is clean and ready for new installations.
  • Pipework Alteration:
    • Adjust and reroute pipework from the bath and basin to accommodate the new shower setup.
    • Ensure proper drainage and water supply connections.
  • Floor Installation:
    • For concrete floors: Dig up the necessary area to install a gully, secure the floor by screwing it down to create a stable shower area.
    • For wooden floors: Install a pre-designed fiberglass form with a gully, ensuring a waterproof and stable base.
  • Safety Measures:
    • Box in exposed pipes to prevent accidents and ensure a clean, professional finish.
    • Use suitable materials that blend with the bathroom decor.
  • Tiling:
    • Tile the necessary areas, focusing on the shower area and other sections requiring waterproofing.
    • Use waterproof adhesive and grout to ensure tiles are securely fixed and moisture-resistant.
  • Installation of Fixtures:
    • Fit the new shower unit, ensuring it is securely attached and properly connected to the water supply and drainage system.
    • Replace the old toilet with a new one, ensuring proper installation and sealing.
    • Install the new basin, making sure it is securely fixed and connected to the plumbing.
  • Accessibility Features:
    • Install a shower seat, curtain rail, and grab rails at strategic points to assist users with mobility issues.
    • Ensure all accessibility features are securely fixed and meet safety standards.
  • Decoration:
    • Paint the walls with moisture-resistant paint.
    • Add finishing touches such as mirrors, shelves, and accessories to complete the        bathroom’s look and functionality.

Key Criteria:

Qualifications

  • NVQ Qualification in Plumbing: This certification demonstrates your technical knowledge and practical skills in plumbing, ensuring you meet industry standards.

 Skills

  • Plumbing: Expertise in installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Tiling: Ability to lay tiles accurately and efficiently, ensuring a high-quality finish in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas.
  • Painting: Proficiency in preparing surfaces, selecting appropriate paints, and applying them to achieve a smooth, professional finish.
  • Carpentry: Skills in constructing, installing, and repairing wooden structures and fixtures, such as doors, windows, and cabinets.
  • Plastering: Experience in applying plaster to walls and ceilings, creating a smooth or textured finish as required.

Experience

  • Fitting Flush Floor Showers: Comprehensive experience in installing flush floor showers from start to finish, including waterproofing, tiling, and plumbing.
  • Working in Tenanted Properties: Familiarity with the challenges and requirements of working in occupied homes, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining a professional demeanour.

 Licenses and Certifications

  • UK Full Driving Licence: Valid driving licence allowing you to travel to various job sites and transport tools and materials.

Tools

  • Hand and Power Tools: Ownership and proficiency in using a range of hand and power tools necessary for plumbing, tiling, painting, carpentry, and plastering tasks.
